William DeRyee

Businessman, inventor and chemist William DeRyee started a drugstore in Corpus Christi in 1865 and cared for the ill when the city's doctors died of Yellow Fever in 1867. During the Civil War, DeRyee developed homeography, a photographic system that made multiple copies of drawings. The process was used during the War to produce Cotton Bonds. He was also successful in introducing the use of chlorine water with creosote as an antiseptic.
