John B. "Red" Dunn and the Dunn Museum

John B. "Red" Dunn was the son of one of Corpus Christi's first settlers who had emigrated from Ireland and joined General Zachary Taylor's army on its march from Corpus Christi to Mexico in 1845. Growing up on the frontier, "Red" Dunn was a Texas Ranger who lived through the Civil War, Nuecestown Raid, and the Penescal Murders. Dunn collected and displayed the memorabilia of the era in the Dunn Museum. Free to the public, the museum afforded visitors the opportunity to meet Dunn and hear his stories first hand. Part of his collection is now on display in the Corpus Christi Museum.
