The Karankawa Indians

The earliest seasonal residents of Padre Island were the nomadic Karankawa Indians, who inhabited the area from 1300 to around 1850. The Karankawa Indians were hunter-gatherers who used canoes hollowed out of logs to travel back and forth from mainland Corpus Christi to their Island home.
